Who's idea was Outernet?

Outernet was conceived and created by Laurence Kirschel, a visionary and philanthropic leader in the UK's property industry.

As the sole founder and inventor of the Outernet brand and concept, Laurence had an ambitious vision to reimagine how people experience media and culture in the physical world.

Long before launch, the plan centred on building a global network of connected, city-centre destinations where music, art, film and digital storytelling could coexist in a single, immersive environment.

Years of planning, land assembly and development (spanning more than a decade) laid the foundations in London’s West End, at the intersection of Tottenham Court Road and Denmark Street.

The concept fused cutting-edge screen technology with live performance, restoring the area’s historic music heritage while introducing a new kind of always-on, public digital canvas.

When Outernet London opened in November 2022, it introduced the largest digital exhibition space in Europe, built around world-leading immersive screens and a programme spanning music, culture and entertainment.

The district was designed not just as a venue, but as a cultural platform, blending physical and digital worlds to create shared experiences at scale.

That original vision has since been realised. In just a few years, Outernet has become the UK’s most visited cultural attraction, welcoming millions into a new form of cultural space and setting the blueprint for future global expansion.
